Need help with A/C drain

Hey guys. I posted this in the 2.3 forum, but I figured the A/C drain is th same between the two. I just picked up a 1993 LX 2.3 as a daily driver.

I've noticed that the passenger floor pan is getting wet when the A/C is running. Upon further inspection, I found that the drain is working as is supposed to, but there is an open hole beneath the drain hose that is letting some water get back into the cabin. Is this supposed to be open or is there supposed to be a grommet or something?

Can someone please look under the carpet (underneath dash) and let me know if this hole is plugged or what?

I don't think that grommet has anything to do with the leak. The hose may be loose at the fitting going out of the cabin at the firewall grommet. That would make it leak right at the firewall and run down inside the cabin. If you make a left turn, does water get on the floor? If the drain is clogged, the 'pan' under the evaporator will fill up and overflow when you make a corner and get on the floor. Sometimes a dirt dobber will try and build a nest in the drain hose. Take a wire and GENTLY run it up the hose from the engine bay side and see if it is plugged. DO NOT POKE HOLE IN EVAPORATOR CORE. Good luck.

It's not leaking at the firewall. It's dribbling out of the drain outlet, running down the firewall, into the open hole and down the inside of the floorpan.

When there is enough water coming out, it runs fast enough to clear the firewall and drip to the ground like it's supposed to. But when it is dribbling slowly, it is running down the firewall back into the hole.

From the picture it "LOOKS" like the yellowish grommet just has a piece that has broken off in which case I would think you could just put some silicone on it.

I noticed that too, but being as the grommet is on the inside, I don't see how it would keep water from coming inside. There has to be something blocking that hole. Surely Ford wouldn't leave a hole in the firewall for no reason?

My rubber hose drain sticks out of the firewall enough so that any water that drips from it has no way of touching the firewall. Is your tube sticking out of the firewall enough?

I only have one hole and that is where my tube exits/

I guess I got a short tube.

I'm gonna try sealing the hole from the inside with a flat piece of aluminum and some blue RTV.

Or the box is not quite seated to the firewall. You should be able to see the tube at the firewall.
