Progress Thread Pearl To White - Paint Time

I’ve worked in body shops almost my whole life and haves managed a half a million dollar a month shop for 5 years. That just doesn’t happen. There’s no way I’d have someone’s car ar my shop for that long, only if there was some critical part that was on back order.

Having someone’s car at a shop that long can lead to problems like this. I’d be lighting someone up. Maybe getting a lawyer involved isn’t such a bad idea.

I agree with Blakeus on the lawyer thing, at least talk to one, have any written agreements handy if any.
Request, in writing, an inventory of any loose items and a list of things that need to be put back on the car. I guarantee more is missing.

I’m going to swing by there again today and take a look myself for them. I found someone who specializes in parts for our cars and has a few set of them. $1600 shipped to my door for just the panels and armrest only.

Wait, it sounds like the people in charge are willing to 'make it right', take an inventory, find out what else is missing/damaged, if they will work it out you just may have to spend a little more time supervising the reassembly.
Just document the process 'just in case'.

That sucks man. I agree time to lawyer up. Maybe get the car out of there.

That is exactly why I haven't had my car painted after going to over 10 shops in the past 2 years. I had to keep calling them repeatedly asking when I could bring the car in and getting excuses. Most dont want to touch it as 90% bread and butter is collision work. I am willing to pay even $10K or so to have it done RIGHT but knowing what I know and having turned wrenches, I know once you give them the car and start paying them $$$ they own you. I asked a few for a detailed quote on what they would be doing to the car, and they looked at me like I was crazy. Welcome to South Florida where the quality of work ethic is almost non existent,

I swear if Dave the Carpainter were closer I'd try and pay him to do it. lol

Jesus I am getting old. Been a year? Yeah hope he is ok. I know he was having some problems he was working through, Hell of a great guy.
I think so, he for sure does great work but after the divorce I know he was focused on other things besides the car so I too hope he's doing well... last time I text him was 10/19/22 ad he said he was good and would answer his thread here but I don't think he ever did.

Stopped by the body shop yesterday just to see what's going on and they were actually working on my car. They finally had the front bumper, headlights and fog lights installed. Really just needs some final hardware installed and a few adjustments. A good cut and buff and of course door panels. They are going to take a good look around the shop again and see if they find the door panels. The body man said he had them in a box to keep them protected and the owner is the one who moves stuff around. Time will tell if they are found and if not, they are paying for some extremely expensive replacements.

If it comes down to having to locate a set of brand new replacement black door panels, be advised that LMR is now selling them made by TMI for 945.00.
I know you understandably want OEM but if that doesn’t work out then this may be an option for you especially that the shop should be paying! It’s a new item at LMR so wanted you to be aware of this as a possible solution.

I found someone who has some factory ones for $1100 which do not include the armrest and other associated parts. I'm just waiting for the body shop to check every inch of their shop for them. I'm pretty sure they won't find them but don't want to purchase them until they give me the thumbs up since it will be coming out of the balance I owe them.
