I'm starting a build thread for my 72 coupe, I know some don't like them, they are big heavy and awkward (kinda like me) I have had an unhealthy love of these cars for a while, When I was a kid my buddies dad had a Grande and it was the first car I ever sat in that I felt like I fit. I'm 6'7" and 265 Lbs, so for me a 65 or a fox body is a bit of a squeeze. I found this car through a buddy, it's 95% complete running and driving. It was owned by a body man who had started to restore it but due to life had to put it aside so after 2 years of sitting I picked it up. The bad, It has a bit of rust in the front fender behind the wheel, and the tail light housing needs replaced.

I plan on the car seeing some track time as well as cruising the town

Specs:

It's a 73 w/ a 72 front clip
Has a 351W that was rebuilt 2 years ago and little to no miles since
Has a FMX auto that I plan on swapping out at a later date for a 5speed OD Manual
9" rear axle w/ big bearing
Power brakes W/ front disks
Power Steering

I plan on changing or upgrading the following
Plans:
Front coilovers and adjustable upper and lower control arms
4-link or IRS rear end
5 speed OD trans
Subframe connector
Rear disk conversion (if I stick to the Solid rear axle)
Edelbrock top end kit
Battery relocation
Rack and pinion steering.

Nice start. Looks like you have Cleveland and not a Windsor. If you need any help, I've done a few of the mods you're planning.

The car was originally a Cleveland, but it has a Windsor now. What about it makes you think otherwise?

Couple pics of me dragging it home, loaded on the back of a roll back trailer Oh these make car transporting so nice, wish it was mine.

I also ordered a new taillight panel from MustangDepot Should be here any day!

Nice start. I look forward to seeing the progress. I wouldn't mind picking up a 73 myself (birth year). They may be a bit of a pig but I like them as well.

Got a little time in on the car, Peeled off all the old filler to see the damage underneath, I got the hood stripped and it's pretty bad, the hood will be replaced with a Nasa hood so it's not a big deal, I just want to have something decent to keep the engine covered if and when I need to drive it. I ground down the studs from the dent puller the PO had used and uncovered some more filler in the same area. I also found a touch more rust at the bottom half of the rear wheel arch, I think it should be relatively easy to repair and have some steel sitting here ready to shape and burn in. But first on my list is to pull teh small dents and get the metal back to where it's supposed to be

Little update, I, with the help and tutelage of my buddy Travis (professional bodyman) got the original hood straightened and realigned, the chrome reattached and the hood closing properly and the gaps lined up. Now I feel a little safer driving it around not worrying that the hood is going to pop up on me.

Of course in all my excitement to get over to his shop to work on it, I forgot my camera, Next time i'm there I'l snap some pics, as well by then I hope to have my taillight panel I ordered on the 1st from mustang depot. and I can get started on repairing that and pull the dent in the rear quarter, and get started on stripping the car and prepping it for the epoxy primer

Your welcome. I got a 351w with a 4spd with mine. If decide to go with a new hood in the future CJ pony parts have good deals on occassion. My garage in my profile doesn't show the pictures anymore.

I have been all over CJP I have a massive shopping list saved

I got my TLP from mustang depot, it took quite a while but it showed up straight and well packed I also picked up a 1/2 gallon of fiber tech filler for cleaning up the minor imperfections.

As far as updates I don't have much, I only get to work on the car 1 day a week and this week I was working at the local 4x4 clubs top truck challenge, and next week I will not be able to do much either, but I get paid on the 1st and started a second job to throw some more $$ at the project so hopefully my CJP's shopping list will get a tad bit smaller and I'll have plenty of stuff to do before the snow flies

Nice picture! I need to clean mine out and knock the dust off, the works been done just sat for too long.

I have to ask, do you really see any improvement with the ram air hood? i'm putting one on mine regardless, it just seems to me that where they are mounted in the hood that at any real speed the air would be going right over them.

Little update.

I received my Corbeau seats. VX2000's in Gray and Black. They are sweet! and the Appropriate seat tracks

I also received my new hood today, CJP had a Sheetmetal sale 15% off my new Dynacorn Naca hood. I also ordered a Made to fit car cover while I was at it and it should be here in a few more days. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do ANY work to the car in person, besides collect parts, and have been rather sad about itamnit:

Picked up a EFI 351w out of a 94, IIRC it should be a Hydro Roller rocker motor, that comes with a newly rebuilt AOD trans too..... Should be a good candidate for build up?

That sounds good. I want to do a hydralic roller conversion myself maybe over the winter. I have the cam already but need everything else. The motor doesn't run on pump gas alone with current cam. I needed something bigger to bleed off some cylinder pressure.
