Hey whats up... Im looking for a setup rite now that i will be able to use with a hci + bottom end... i do alot of "street driving":D and a weekend a month at the track... what would be the best i kno u can make alot of power from a turbo but is it the best for our cars? im looking to go deep in the 11s when im done with some suspension mods and other stuff.. let me know what u think oo if i do a turbo it will be a diy

Turbo seems to be the most popular trend recently. Not only in the aftermarket sector but in OEM vehicles as well. Turbo will make more power but takes more fabrication work IMO. So to me the real trade off comes in the form of labor to fun factor ratio. Think about it like that and then make your choice.

a blower is more common, a turbo you can has the uniqueness of it, and the first time you nail the gas, your like ah thats not all that great, then spool occurs and your fishtailing all over the road, its way more fun in a turbo car, although more tuning and fab is required, there are some places like hellionturbosystems.com that have kits that are off the shelf, meaning you dont have to wait 2 months to get the turbo, and they bolt right up.

oh wait its hellionpowersystems.com ah there we go........

There are no cons to a turbo car :)

J/K, the cons are the fabrication(not bad, just fun ;) ) all the piping in the engine bay and underhood heat if you dont use wrap or get the pipes coated.

Pros: Instant power, no belt replacement, price(thats right, a NICE diy kit using new parts cost about the same or less than a SC-trim/Novi1000 kit new)

Agreed. It costed me 2grand for my diy turbo kit. $1,100 for the b&g hotside, $500 for master power turbo, $150 intercooler, $200 for misc. piping. I got a deal on everything but you just have to look.

Yep, I think I have around $1300-1400 in mine, but I already had the fuel pump and injectors becuase I had a Vortech on the car before the turbo(never going back btw):D

The only disadvantage of a turbo now is "lag" but in a V8, as long as you don't go overboard with the size of the turbo, that isn't the big problem. Yes, you can get a S trim for about $2600 and it comes with a lot, but the turbo setup will have more, and a lot more power.

centri blowers have lag too... remember that

the KB however :D

This is a great thread, as I am planning on ditching the nitrous for a different power adder. I would love to go turbo, but I don't have the fabrication skills/tools to do it myself and there aren't many resources around me that can help.
I know about the kits, but $$$ is a factor in my case. Plus I think with the sc I can make enough HP to split my block(knock on wood).

i'm with you too on this one, i think ipaid about the same for my B&G stuff, turbo etc. and since i got a nice raise at work while i was doing my turbo kit i opted to get a PMS and a wideband as well, i got all this for less than it would have costed me for a similar setup S/C kit

only downside was making your own piping, but to me that was the most fun.

What is a good resource for piping. the depot by me doesn't have 3+inch piping that I want to use for my supercharger. and will I have a problem with steel rusting on the inside of the pipe, I can paint the outside, but will the inside receive any moisture?
