pros and cons of a sc vs. turbo

does anybody here have any experience with ponydown? i'd like to piece together a 5 or 6 psi (low boost on stock block) turbo kit eventually. i'd probably buy hot side, maybe have the cold side made, and pick a turbo later. or is B&G really worth the money?

92GreenGT, ms93gt any pics of your setups?
Yeah old pics, lol. Sorry but ive always got something going on so I never get a "good" pic of it. Here are two pics, one is awhile back with the stock intake, and one is the most recent right after the explorer intake swap. Best I have right now.:nonono: :bang:

What is a good resource for piping. the depot by me doesn't have 3+inch piping that I want to use for my supercharger. and will I have a problem with steel rusting on the inside of the pipe, I can paint the outside, but will the inside receive any moisture?

Use coupon code 001 or 0001 for 10% off entire order(forgot which it is, just use one if it doesnt work use the other) Darin has the best prices that I could find, awesome customer service and does the turbomustang thing himself, so he knows what he is talking about when you need help.:nice:

Jeff(ponydown) and Brian(B&G) both make quality stuff, Id say it would boil down to opinion/price on which to go with. I think everyone has been pleased with both companies.:flag:

I'm also really considering the turbo/SC question for next fall. How much boost are you running 92greengt...and how much power do you think you are making. Im worried that a turbo setup wont be worth it b/c i couldnt realize its potential b/c of the stock block limitations.

Same thing i was thinking, H/C/I + Turbo = Split block and i definatly can't afford a dart block at this point in my life.

I've really been thinking about selling my nitrous setup after the heads go on and saving a little more for a S/C , but even then i'm worried about splitting the block or bending some rods. I would LOVE a turbo much more then a S/C but without a good block and some internals is it even worth it?

Well I was on a Bone Stock engine (stock headers even) but now I have an explorer upper/lower intake. I havent drove the car with the intake yet to see how much it helped, but I was running 6lbs of boost with 24* total timing(super rich...10's AFR) but with that super safe tune and probably a 3500lb race weight the car would trap around 108-9mph in the 1320, havent dynoed so I cant tell you how much power it was making at the time. Car is a handful on 17" nittos, so I dont want to up the boost anymore until I can get it to hook.
-Edit0-
Just so this is clear, we race at Bristol, TN where the DA is usually high as hell, and a 5.0 will run around 94-95mph on motor. Just to show the mph difference, we dont have the 100mph trapping 5.0's around here ;)

There are plenty running around on the stock short block pushing 450+ h/p to the wheels…and more that have been doing it for years. Granted there is no guarantee it will hold up….you'll never know until you try. With a good and/or safe tune, bending rods wont be an issue.
