Stang... Totalled

Well guys, on June 25th, my GT's life came to a tragic end. My girlfriend and i were on the way to Myrtle Beach, following some friends on I-40 in Raleigh, NC. I had been down a week at the beach without my stang and wanted it down there even though i knew it would rain a little on the way down, and she was wearing 305 Nitto DR's in the rear. Well, i got through 2 of the downpours ok, but the 3rd one was real bad, so bad i turned my flashers on and got completely off the gas and was going to pull off the side of the interstate. But of course, about time i got down to 50mph i hit a big slick of water and hydroplaned. Slid sideways down the right lane for a few seconds before going off to the right into the grass, hitting a ditch, turning around backwards and rear ending a pine tree. The girlfriend got a pretty good gash on the back of her head from some flying glass that needed some staples, and i got a few stitches for a pretty nice gash on my arm, also from glass. Of course the car books at 12,500 KBB average retail and ive got around 8 grand in it and the insurance company gave me 9,600. What a bunch of crooks. So now ive got an 01 Explorer Sport Trac, more room than the stang, but i will definately be back in the game within a year... I already have the itch!

What do you mean by "I had 8Gs in it"? Like in mods, or what you payed for it, or both?

Got to take this opportunity to again point out the insurance thing. Lot of people on here think swapping a v6 to a v8 is good to save on insurance, or putting a KB on instead of buying a Cobra to save on insurance....but this is exactly what happens...you get very little of your value back. Basically your investment is not protected. Nothing personal against the original poster of this, just making a general statement.

Also, glad you got some money, some insurance adjusters could have been real dicks and not paid a dime since your car had DR's on it. Technically that would probably qualify as a modification to the original vehicle that was unsafe and could violate an insurance policy.

Just some things to think about. Now get another damn stang!

Oh man, sad to see a 35th go down like that You should find out if you can buy it back from them, and part it out. You could make LOTS of money from some of the 35th stuff, along with your other parts. Glad you're ok man.

so sorry to hear about your car. Glad to hear that you and your girlfriend are "ok", or at least as good as possible.

My stang's been "totaled" twice, and both times I refused to take what the insurance company offered. I highly suggest taking their check, buying it back from them at salvage value, and parting it out or fixing it up. Insurance companies are white collar crooks who are just going to turn around and part your car out or sell it to a used mustang dealer/salvage yard who will in turn fix it and R-title it and resell it. I took their $6900, bought my car back from them for $700, fixed it myself (with a ton of help from my brother) for $1800, bought a crown vic for $2000 to drive in the meantime and pocketed the rest.

I'll help you as much as I can if you need some more advice, but you should definately consider other options before you just pull your pants down and assume the insurance companies favorite position.

Glad noone was seriously injured. Honestly i dont think that the insurance company ripped you off. The kbb value you got was a retail value, whereas the insurance company gave you the private party/trade in value for it. Id say buy it back and part it out if you can.

The thing with the insurance that got to me was this. When they first made an offer, it was like 9,200, and they said they gave me average retail for a 1999 mustang gt. Well then i let them know it was a 99 LE, and that the average retail was 12,500. So then they backed down and used the trade in value for the LE. I was just like, well why give me average retail for it until you find out the car is worth more than that?

Glad you guys ok, I know how you feel cause I got rearended like 9 months ago. After getting my car fixed , within not even 2 month I got reareded again . 2nd time was bad hit so it took more then 2 months to get my car back. Here in vegas Mofo people can't drive for *****
