Progress Thread Tannerc91gt’s Build(s) Thread

Where in all of the past replies did you say that you were converting over to a Holley system, and getting rid of the MS3x?

I just looked,.....only found "innuendo".

Didn't look too far.....:D

He threw in the towel with the open source efi. The Holley is application specific so it is simpler, and he is familiar with it.
Both ECUs are capable of running a wide range of engines and both systems were marketed as plug and play with an LS specific harness. I see them as the same in that regard. Except that DIY didn't really provide that same level of out-of-the-box ready with the software. I really feel like they market the MS3Pro PNP stuff a lot different than the goldbox/ms3x stuff where you expect there to be a lot of blanks to fill in.
Definitely frustrated with how it worked out. I'm sure now that the ECU is repaired it would be a whole different situation but they lost me as a customer. That's alright.
Do you have a buyer for it yet?
Yes, it'll ship out as soon as it shows up tomorrow. Debating whether I'll put the harness back to how it was when it shipped to me or how I repinned it to match their pinout. They gave conflicting info on that.

Time for a more official State of the Union.

I've been fighting this non-running-pain in my ass car since January.
Switched to Holley EFI, got the car all wired up the other day.

Still won't run. Pretty similar circumstances.
Fires, immediately dies.

I chased my tail a good bit. Rewired damn near everything, which needed done anyways.
Logged a ton of attempted starts. Just didn't see anything weird.

Until today. The map reading dropped to 0kpa. Logged a few more attempts, and saw it again.
I decided to remove the map sensor and check it out.

Mystery solved. This is a 3 bar map setup to fit an ls1 intake. I've heard rumors they're prone to splitting and doing goofy stuff. Rumor confirmed.

Yanked the 1 bar map off my truck and it fired right up. A buddy is sending me a 3 bar Holley brick-style map as a replacement.

Commence major idle surge. Like car is running, nearly dead, running, nearly dead type surging.

These new injectors are relatively large, even more so on pump gas, and they're basically shutting off attempting to idle.
Going to go back out shortly and clean it up, hopefully get a good idle video for the first time.

In a few other aspects, I've grown to hate a few things about the setup.

The turbos are too close to the engine, the dump tubes can't go anywhere but where they are, the coolant lines are too close to aforementioned turbos and dump tubes, etc etc. Basically 10lbs of crap in a 5lb engine bay. Just not as proud of the final outcome as I had hoped to be. Needs fixed.

Which brings us to now.
I'm sure some of you have heard of the new raffle craze going around all the Facebook parts pages. Today I won a set of Mickey Thompson 275 pros. Which is great because my 555rs are spent and a :poo:ty tire to begin with.
The other thing I won last night was an $800 tubular front end from 417 motorsports. I might have mentioned theses earlier in this thread.
So with next to no investment from me, I'll now be able to move the turbos out, fix the dump tubes and coolant lines and tweak some of the coldside to better fit.

Thats friggin sweet about your free new parts. If you arent happy with the car, then it will always be a thorn in your side until you sort it out. And Im glad to read you got it running, because I already had a smart arsed bowtie reply brewing in my head until I got to the part of you working it out.

Hmm you should have been able to see the bad map sensor in datalogs or on the sensor readouts. The fact that it ran at all with either system is crazy. Better now than later.

So you think the injectors are to large? I don't buy that, what are the injector milliseconds during idle? With very large injectors multiple firing events can sometimes help.

I don't think the MAP sensor came apart until today. It acted pretty normal up til that point. I think it was a bad sensor calibration for most of the time. I know I tried a few different presets today with drastically different results.
The injectors are not too large to function, just too large for a novice tuner to sort out quickly. It was suggested to me to command a richer idle AFR which seemed to help a lot or tune it open loop. Hope to make good progress tomorrow. It'll be a while before I'm ready to track down some better fuel so I've gotta get it figured out.
I'm waiting on a new map sensor as the one I stole from my truck I can't find good data for either.

Yes a richer idle will smooth out. My car will idle at 16afr on the gauge... but it's closer to 14.

For a smoother idle richen into the low to mid 13s, increase timing 4* in idle area to make better vacuum.... unplug the iac and get idle set to -75rpm of your target. Then tune the idle settings to your closed loop target....
If you screen shot your idle settings I can give you some suggestions.
