tire size?

I currently have cobra r wheels on my car. they are 17x9. i want a wider tire in the back but not to much to where i need to worry about rubbing and clearance issues. would a 275 40 be alright?

Will work just fine. You won't have any issues at all.

You could probably put a 285 on it but thats about the max. for a 9" rim.
You can put 315/35/17s on the back with 10.5" rims without any issues in most cases.

285 = 285 millimeters in width
40 = 40% of width for sidewall height

I have put 285's on my mine, little tire bulge but ok.
