stock 302 block
x-302 gt40 alum heads (ported)
trick flow track heat intake
65mm TB
73mm C&L
24lb injectors
built AOD w/ 2700 stall
4.10 gears
not my daily driver

best suggestion for power/driveability?

I didn't see x cam listed in his mods and for driveability you can't beat the ecam esp with an auto and it's cheapest. Custom would be the best or u could look into the baby crowler or tfs stage 1 etc.... all depends on how much u want to spend.

No, he meant gt40 'x' heads, as opposed to 'y' or 'p' heads.

I second the 'E' cam, why go through the added expense and hassle of buying/pursuing an internet racer "custom" grind? If you pick a shelf-grind-special matched for your setup the car will perform great

There are dozens of "custom" grind cams out there ... they are all shelf grinds with stats that you can pick to best suit your combo.

sorry didnt c that must been tired ide say f cam more of a gain but still driveable maybe not as good as e as fars a driveabilty issues but a good custom cam is still better i think

May not be daily but may not enjoy the significant idle issues that will come with it, also may lack enjoyment when time to notch the pistons..but would be well worth the aggravation when floor meets the pedal.

No way i'd put a custom cam in that combo...not worth it. An off the shelf would work great with it and make good power. You want to make killer power switch the heads,intake,tb,mass air, and upgrade the injectors...then throw a custom at it.

Call comp cams tech # on website, they recomended a cam too me and when I showed it to the guy rebuilding my engine he walked me to his desk and showed me he picked the same one. Their tech guys will set you up with a good solid performer. I don't think his set up is far enough along to really need a custom cam.

There's a lot more to a custom cam than just the specs you see. I don't understand why you're going to spend all the money you did on the motor then skimp on the most important part of it?

Comp, Crane, Ford, etc etc are all aware of how to machine a power producing cam. That's why they make a variety of different cams and most Stangers buy them...

... and yes maybe a "custom" grinder can machine one that produces a couple of more ponies or tq than shelf brand (a) grind (x), but what's the point, so he can brag how he has a "custom" grind as opposed to a shelf grind that makes desired power with his combo.

customs are a waste of money i have seen my fair share of them in cars and just laughed at the 13 second custom cam havin fools

i am going to build a 306 with the big trick flow cam
ported e7te heads and a victor intake and 750 holley and 1.6 RR
and i think the car will run good till i get some diff heads later on

Customs are NOT a waste of money...just at this power level he is at, an off the shelf will do fine.

What is a waste of money imo...paying someone to port a set of stock heads when anyone can do it and get almost the same damn results. For a set of kick ass ported stockers you are going to spend a buttload more than $5-$600. I don't even want to hear about how it takes a set of ported stockers to run 12's..don't waste your breath on me.
