Efi 351w Swap

Due to my frustration with the water pump, I ended up ordering the ford part from CJ's.
I know things add up but as inexpensive as it is to purchase a new WP it's totally worth it over having to R&I the old WP a couple times and scrape all the old gasket off. I always add some RTV to the gaskets to help them seal.

Just a little patience and you'll have all this sorted out and driving very soon. Great job!

P.S.
I have this action camera, it's inexpensive and takes quality videos and pictures
Amazon product ASIN B06XHNQ44XView: https://www.amazon.com/AKASO-Waterproof-Camcorder-Rechargeable-Mounting/dp/B06XHNQ44X

I use this suction mount for inside my car

Thanks! And thanks for the heads up on the camera! I hope I get it all together soon so I can take advantage of a camera.

UPDATE!! The water pump issue has been corrected for the time being. Regardless of what brand of water pump the gasket supplied is wrong for my application. My timing cover is late model fuel injected truck and the coolant ports are unique. All previous 302 and 351 timing cover ports are different. Enough of that... I gooped a gasket.

My assessment: This swap rocks!! I took the engine from a lightning pickup. The previous owner of the engine added cobra roller rockers to the valvetrain. This provides increased lift compared to the stamped steel rockers. I took that engine and converted it to a roller camshaft. Not just any camshaft. I used a stock H.O. fox body mustang camshaft. 75mm throttle body and spacer. The computer is stock mustang A9L. The injectors are 24lb’ers matched to the air flow meter.
This is how I see it; Take the stock 302 foxbody and add 49 cubic inches. To compensate for the increased displacement add more fuel and more air but leave all aspects of engine timing stock to minimize driveability problems. No need to modify the computer.

It’s not perfect. Sometimes at partial throttle there is a little bit of hesitation. 87 octane. That’s what I’m running. It starts runs and drives. I’ve been driving it all week since the friday evening before the super bowl. My confidence is growing with every mile. I am beating the piss out of it. I bought a video camera so I can share the driving experience. As soon as I figure out the camera I will take an idle and walk around video to share. Then a driving video hopefully.

Awesome, congrats man.And-I see you got the hood to close :nice:
Thank you! Once I put together some more photos and videos it will become more apparent how visually unimpressive my car is. Haha! Yes I got the hood to close by denting it and slamming it shut. The intake is still pushing up on the hood of the car.

Congrats bro! Stick with 87 octane and just run as much timing as you can with it. I was able to run about 13.5* with 87 octane and there was a noticeable improvement in TQ (you get used to it quickly though). I look forward to some cruising videos. I love that your car isn't super clean and pretty, it looks like a driver and a great one too!

Thanks for the advice. Yes. It is a car I intend to drive regularly!

cool build man
Thankyah!

Congrats at it running:nice:

Have you got a feel for the irs yet? Pretty nice?
I really like the IRS! Yesterday was a solid day of rain and the car never scared me! You would think with all the torque the back end would be swingin’. But when it breaks free it isn’t violent and more often than not you can catch it pretty easily and reel it back in. The ride isn’t ultra stiff and the car tracks pretty well.

It’s been over 2 months since that last post. The Daddywagon is almost a daily driver. I routinely spin the tires leaving lights and pulling out of places. Today the Daddywagon made it’s first “show” appearance. I drove out to the Cars and Coffee in Bethlehem, Pa. It was a good time and I honestly should’ve stayed longer and enjoyed the experience more. But all in all a successful first show outing for the Daddywagon!

Ha! This hesitation is completely gone! I guess the computer worked it out. The check engine light is on solid. When I first put it together I had 67, 81, 82, and 85, but the CEL was not on solid. Now it is on pretty solid just after initial start up. The new players are 23 which ended up replaced by 63. Driveability hasn’t been affected at all. Still beating the piss out of it. I’m not sure what you guys with 500+ hp do but I’m probably half that and pretty satisfied. I think with the 351 I get torque which makes for a fun street car.
