My dist is currently in pieces. Trying to decide my plan for that. SO having something to block the hole is a bonus, but wasn't my intention for buying that particular tool. It was the cheapest on Amazon prime
Here's my plan for the next couple weeks. Let me know if this does or doesn't make sense.
- Set lifter preload and lock everything down
- Dump some oil in the pan, prime the system and check pressure and that all 16 lifters are sending oil up properly
- Get everything nice and lubed and bolt the stock valve covers on to keep everything clean
- work on test fitting the upper manifold (hardware, gaskets, brackets, paint, etc)
At that point, the main engine is done. I bought a stand from Stumpy's Fab works that will allow me to set the engine down on the ground and bolt the trans on
https://www.stumpysfabworks.com/
Only two major items left to buy are below. These can be purchased at any time since they can be installed later.
- Valve covers (I think I know what style i'm going to)
- Headers (or wrap my current headers)
At that point my plan is:
- Install new rear main seal and sleeve on crank
- Reinstall flywheel, clutch, pressure plate. New ARP hardware
- clean/paint bellhousing and reinstall
- check bellhousing index (because It easy to check at this point)
- install starter
- Install transmission
Goes without saying that everything above will be cleaned/painted as needed. my 5-spd conversion really only has about 1-1.5k miles on it since install. Flywheel and clutch look to be in great shape so they will be going back in.
And then i'm done. Engine/trans will get shoved in the corner as one unit until ready to be put in. Seems like an easy list, but trying not to rush so that i don't make any stupid mistakes not that there is much to do involving measuring and checking specs....already done most of that.
ANd then it's on to working on the engine bay, fixing my frame rails, painting the bay, and installing the k-member. As much as i had fun doing the engine, i wouldn't mind changing gears and working on the car.
And, reinstalling the A/C with R-12 is also on the agenda.
At this rate, I hope the car is driving by the fall
