Ok. What to do about this?

It’s ugly, but reliable.

do I try to clean it up? Get a new reman? Do I grab a 110amp 6G?
Disassemble, bead blast, VHT paint or powder coat, and rebuild? A local electric motor shop can strip the case and reload it if you prefer not to learn how.
Do you need more amps?

I got one on Amazon for a f150, it was like $76 a DB electric one. Front half of case was wrong for our cars, so I took mine apart and used my case with all the new guts. You can order one , take yours apart and finish case any way you want, then put new stuff in it. I got lucky with seller,I was going to return it but they said keep it, free for me.

I also vote to either rebuild it or have it rebuilt. The last one I had rebuilt is still in the car. Either you or someone already experienced with alternators can "improve" components and connections. I don't recall much of it but I do recall him saying that he'd soldered all of the internal connections.

Hell, a bearing upgrade comes to mind if I were to split one open today.

There's too much "garbage" from parts stores.

Edit: There appears to be a variety of upgrade kits for 3g alternators.

The DB electric one I got is a quality part, I run an electric fan, hid headlights, stereo and no issues at all. Remember I daily my fox,and you can't beat the price.

If the coils are corroded, that's game over. If the areas where the brushes ride (on the stator?) is smooth or can be smoothed, the rest is more fiddley, not rocket science. When we reclocked different alternators at Autoworks, sometimes the cases would get pulled apart too far, and the brushes would have to be reinstalled. The manager and assistant manager were like MacGyver with a couple of paper clips, and I learned on pre 3G and GM models. it's not likely any harder, especially with YouTube. And if you mess it up, you still have a core to exchange.

I am running this AC delete on my car. Seems to work OK. Not as blingy as that ebay piece though..

SO this actually bolts onto your car? I bought the same Dorman 34163 and the fit seems rather poor. It doesn't sit right because the mounting tabs interfere with the ac bracket and the pulley alignment Is off.

Do you have a pic of this installed on the car?

I'll get one up tonight. I didn't have that kind of issue when I installed mine. The link I posted came right off my order history, so I don't think I sent you the wrong part #.

It definitely looks like it's close to fitting, but just not perfectly. I think I have a buddy who has a junk compressor so i'll play with it a tad more and maybe just return it and use the spare compressor for now.

Dorman could have changed the part since I installed mine, as mine has been on the car since 2016. Is your AC bracket OE or a reproduction? Mine is the crusty original.

mine is an OEM bracket as well, it just doesn’t fit like yours does. As you can see from the above pic the support ribs on mine hit the bracket. I would need to clearance them slightly with a grinder to get it to sit flush.

I’ll have to wait til I install the PS pulley to confirm alignment. Thanks for the pics, I’ll have to play with this a tad

Ok. I played with it and short of busting out the grinder and using the supplied spacer, it wasn’t going to mount in a way that made me happy.

then I realized my PS pump was dry and no hoses hooked up, so I didn’t want to run the engine anyway.

so I returned it. Oh well, let’s not rush here I guess.

Got my new battery tray. Daniel Carpenter piece, so fit is spot on. I do need a longer bottom bolt. These are M6 x 1.0. I believe the side ones can be 20mm or so long, but the bottom one is 2” in lenght (convert to MM) so I need to order more hardware.

you don’t want to know what I spent on hardware on this project.

I need to spend a solid day on the wiring. Might have to take a day off from work for it. That’s the big hurdle slowing my down since I’m relocating my wiring to inner fenders. Once I get that done, things should move faster.

Finally got my drivers 87-89 GT seat in. bought it from Fox Resto for $40 plus ship. Stripped it down, and assessing what parts I’ll need to get.

the Recaros aren’t going anywhere, but I really want a set of black OEM style 87-89 GT seats. I have a thing for them, so I’m gonna build a set after I get the car running. I just haven’t decided cloth, vinyl or leather yet. Likely Cloth.

my little buddy helping me strip down the seat. I threw the red tweed in the wash and it cleaned up ok. I’ll keep it.

In looking over the seat back something struck me as wrong and out of place. Finally it hit me.

I bought this seat for $40, so this isn’t a complaint. But it was supposed to be an 87-89 sport seat. What I found is that the top half is actually a base model seat that someone modified to hold the lumbar bladder (this seat came with one)

Someone took snips, cut the flap and bent it over.

this is how it should look.

what caught my eye was the back of the seat. After searching EBay for a bit, I found the pattern. The seat on the left with the small hump is the 4 cyl seat back and the seat on the right (or top rather) is the sport seat back.

someone did weld this seat up and did a nice job. It’s nice and straight,

mixed feelings on this. I’ll need to see how the foam sits otherwise I’ll have to hop on eBay and buy another top frame. Oh well.

These won’t get worked on until the car is driving, so I have time to find a good deal. These will get stripped down, evaporusted, painted and rebuilt like new just like the Recaros. Nice winter project disn the road. I still need to find an 87-89 rear seat as well .

Plugging away with minor stuff. Won’t likely update with everything. Running new vac lines and such as much out of sight as I can.

installed my NOS EGR after clearcoating it.

Looking forward, I’ll need to hang the PS fluid likely in this area. I’ll have to model up a bracket, Laser cut it it and powdercoat. I may purchase a new reservior. It’s a prominent posotion, but I don’t think I have any other option. We will see

here’s the remote mount PS pump. Same size port as the reservior so this should be clean and OEM like.
