Today the car took a piss. Its leaking out bottom radiator.
Right where bolt is touching it.

The bolt got bent up and touched radiator there making pin holes.
I soldered the spot up, then resembled the cooling system and can’t seem to bleed all the air out.
I put water in and it blows it out to puke tank.
One new thermostat and radiator cap later, before it heats up it blows past cap to overflow.
With cap off radiator full it blows water out and has bubble stream in top tank.
I’m thinking head gasket is blown.
Oil is clean no milkshake or volume changes.
Exhaust is clean no visible exhaust gasses white, blue, or otherwise at tailpipe.

Think I need a test or is head gasket the problem?

Sadly sounds like a head gasket to me- blowing out like that is when exhaust gases are pressurizing the cooling system ,right?

It doesn't sound good, that's for sure. What are the chances of finding an Explorer 5.0 in Hawaii?

slim to cloudy

Went and filled it and ran it to almost overheating on the gauge.
My solder patch seem to hold just fine as the 15 lbs new cap let water blow by to puke tank.
Theres no way that its just the water pump sucking air.

Well, I mean if you have to basically rebuild the engine anyway.....

Of course, this is keeping a smaller budget in mind - we all know how that can snowball.

2005 - Ford 260-289-302 old style Ford 8.2" 6-71 TBS- 2005 Supercharger

Side note: it looks like (at least) Jegs is back to carrying Speedmaster parts. That didn't last long, did it?

I'd take a shot with it - I mean you're not out much if it doesn't work.

Where it is combustion going to to coolant , isn’t it flowing the wrong way to coagulate ?
From coolant to outside is different? IDK

The label says ' permanent coolant leak repair’...oh wait, back one says permanent head gasket...

I’m guessing it’s just leaking exhaust/compression gases into the cooling system- not the other way around, right? Id think the goop in that bottle would still find its way around any and every passage it can lol

Was it puking water out before the hole in the rad happened? If not, it would be strange for a head gasket to go at that exact time as the other.

I think gasket failed and pressurized system then overheated because it seemed to working fine for a long time.

Indecision! due to budget constraints, time constraints, and its been F-N Hot outside, no chance of self healing, wish I could rub the rust off it, dang, ... so...

Been watching C-list and B face for a replacement 289/302 because I'm worried about block/head being cracked.
Probably an unfounded worry.
Found one possibility of a somewhat fresh machined but un assembled 302 but been sitting and kind of cost prohibited for a pile of someone else's problems.

Hadn’t touched this car in a while

And there’s cobwebs already
But hit key and the 289 spins
So compression test time

Pulled plugs out
#2 looked wet -this is bad

Spun engine over for number 1 test and water splashed out of 2 and 3 holes
Bummer
That water looks rusty

Hope its just the gasket between 2 & 3
