Sprays easy though. When it first came out I was all excited to try it, then i was told how much it costs.......

It's like telling me how nice a ferrari is. I agree and admire them, but no consideration whatsoever about having one. Except for the latest lottery ticket of course, i'm feeling kind of lucky.......
We didn't have to worry about blending the fenders! ;)

super vic plumbed for juice. carb version of what mine is. anything smaller on a 408 with decent heads would be a waste.
 
If you're not going to use the NOS, you can probably have someone weld the efi bungs in the holes the NOS nozzles are. Nothing's hard if you have enough money or skillz. There's a guy who is the super moderator on the Holley EFI forums and he converted a 460 RPM Airgap to EFI himself. Pretty good skills to figure out how to get all the injector bosses on the same level on a dual plane.

It wouldn’t be that difficult to tap that intake for efi, would it?
it'd be easier and cheaper to start with the already efi version. those n2o nozzles would probably have to move, those holes welded up, and new injectors bungs drilled and welded in. probably several hundred in labor/machine work. you could probably sell that one and buy an efi one with no loss.
 
That is one of the tall boys, measuring 5.750 high.

The nos nozzles are already in the holes that you'll end up using as injector locations. I'd use what you got, as you're gonna end up drilling holes straight through that Runner right on top of the hole that is already there. The nos nozzle is drilled diagonally, the injector bung will eat that hole all up.

Naww,...just kidding. Any conventional performance manifold is still gonna have to have an elbow/TB/Carb on top, and either an elbow or air cleaner on top of that. When you add it up, (especially if you put an elbow directly on top of the existing one,) I'd bet that it will end up being just as high.

there was a thread about that intake around here. it doesnt look any taller than a box-r, but that throttle body is in exactly the wrong place for hood clearance, and needs a special distributor or cam sync. somewhere else i think ive read that it doesnt have enough runner thickness for a 1262r port, which for a high-end 351 intake, is a huge deal.

@Davedacarpainter It's like it was meant to be! I already have the distributor! I wonder if it will fit under my 'glass 2.5" cowl.

I was at my brother's today. I looked over the intake of the 408. It's a 2924 Super Victor Edelbrock.

Through just some mild studying, it's best operating range is between 4500 - 8500rpm! OMG! I sure do like the way it looks, but that power range will be a little tough stop light to stop light.

A different intake will be called for.

Plus, not everything my brother told me may have been accurate. Anyone seen one of these tags on the side of a block before?

It may be a 408 like my brother said still. Doesn't it take a minor overbore to make a 408? I thought the biggest on just a stroker was a 393. Am I wrong here? The tag suggests just a cleaned up block to me. So, it's at least a 351, i think I can say that's for sure.

At the minimum, the engine will have to be torn down completely and I'll have to do some measuring.

That cheap black paint on the block will have to go to. It ain't nearly pretty enough.

Now I'm a little anxious about the internals. My brother could have put a stroker rotating assembly in it.
 
Pay no attention to an advertised power range on a stroker, the cfm requirements go way up.

A 408 will be a 4.030 bore (cylinder refresh) with a 4.0 stroke. 393 will be the same bore with a 3.75 stroke. Obviously you'll have to open it up to know you have there.

Ummm, did he ever want to race you? Maybe he was blowing smoke up your skirt? On the off chance it is just a 351w, just remember a 351w block can hold about 200-300 more hp than a 302 block....at least. They are just beefier. If it's really a 351w I'd look at an RPM Air Gap or maybe a Victor Jr. If it's a 393 or bigger just go Vic jr. It's single plane, a bit smaller than the super vic.

Engine masters just did a 351W shootout with a Vic Jr and Air Gap. Very Surprisingly, the single plane made MORE torque and 20 more HP and the RPM shift was not hideously higher. I have the same cam they ran, want to get some really good heads, AFR, like they used and I already have an Air Gap. Now I am going to have to buy more :poo:!!!!

You'll know soon enough I guess. It doesn't matter really. Granted, It would be great if it has forged internals, but it'll be just as capable if it has a cast rotating assy in it. Way back when,..... when the majority of the contingency here were still dreaming of owning their first Mustangs (91) A forged stroker assy for a 351w was not cheap. At least not like it is now. If you wanted a 393/408 the cast steel SCAT crank was way more affordable than a forged one, ( and IIRC, forgings were few and far between,...with only a few premium label companies even offering one) I was driving the Black and white Zep back then, and it had a 357/c4 in it. I wanted a stroker engine for the car back then, and the crank was just too much money,...even the cast one.
W/ World Sr. heads that car would only run a 12.0 1/4 mile N/A, but once it had nitrous on it the car ran high 10's... But Again, Iron World SR heads, a cobbled together ntirous system, a Victor jr intake, and a 3310 vacuum secondary carburetor compared to what followed at that time only a few years later(95) there were several other guys running better heads, better induction, and a real nitrous system that were going way faster on the same sized engine. (6.15-20's 1/8 miles, 9.50-9.60 1/4 miles)

(I had a couple of BBF cars during that time that ran close to that with almost stupidly stock configuration, but butt-loads of nitrous..They all eventually failed,.......gloriously)

It took ten years between that one, and the next one that was a Windsor build for me to actually pony up and buy my first stroker kit, but in 01'- 03 I ran that white and purple Mitsubishi Starion that was my last sig line. That car was an alcohol injected TFS R headed, cast crank 393 with a fogger system set at 250, That car ran 5.80 1/8th miles. (9.0 1/4) I broke that block at that power level.

The moral to my Easter ramble is that Even if it is a 351, with those heads that you pictured, and that fogger, it'll be stupidly fast if you want it to be. If it's a bigger engine (in any configuration) all the better, but not the end of the world.

Plus there's a I think Hot Rod story, 2 actually. 1 with a 4.8 LS out of a junkyard. The other a bone stock 351 out of a yard. The gist was how much power could a junkyard shortblock take. I believe the LS went to about 1200 hp and the stock coils kept blowing out. They never blew it up on that try. The 351w made over 1000 flywheel HP and they ran out of wastegate springs. They blew it up when they tied the wastegate shut! So a lowly 2 bolt 351w block with cast pistons can hang if you don't do stupid stuff.

It's like a treasure hunt for me. I know what was said to be there, I just have to get the rights to it and do some digging.

I fully agree though, if it's "just a 351" and has those AFR heads and the nitrous it'll probably be more than enough fun for a 2800lb car.

Hopefully I'll have it home in the next month or so and we'll see what i've got then.

Depending on what was done, I may send the block off to be given a nice warm bath and buy some new fasteners for it. I'll have to save up a little for the new cam, roller lifters, etc.

I'm looking forward to just taking off the valve covers, see what's hiding there. I might pop one off next time I'm out to my brother's.

I read that article about the 351 when it came out. Pretty interesting.

Me do stupid stuff? lol! As long as I don't listen to @RaggedGT too much:O_o:
