I just bought a set of Comp Cams # 102600  they say they recommend i upgrade my valve springs but i dont think i should any opinions????Also what all so i need to install these cams is there any website that has instructions and how long will it take???Any certian gaskets that you all will recommend???

What are the specs of these cams? Anything more than a mild aftermarket cam should definately replace the springs. I wouldn't want to experience a valve spring breaking.

I would do it. I don't know if you have ever seen what happens when you have the wrong spring but it is not always nice. I bought a set off trickflow twisted wedge heads for my chevelle. the specs said good to .500 lift. I ran a cam that had .510 lift on the exhaust. started running like crap because a couple pushrods and rocker arms were f'd up. so short story long do what the manufacture recomends they are smarter than you or I.

That spring set was for 96-2000 motors it does not have a set for mine i was figuring that mine are different though...What all do i need to do the install and how long will it take... this is my first OHV cam install so wher could i find directions on how to install this cam...

You'll have to remove the timing cover, the water pump, valve covers and timing chains. The power steering pump and the AC compressor will also have to be pulled out of the way. If you replace the valve springs you will also have to pull the intake manifold and heads. Make sure you position the crank to the safe postition (45 degrees CCW from TDC on #1) before you remove the chains or attempt to rotate the cams or you will bend a valve and possibly damage a piston. :nice:

The whole job took me about a day and a half by myself and it was the first time I had replaced cams on a mod motor. I didn't pull the heads so you can add a lot of extra time for that...

I just installed those cams and springs in my car this past weekend. It's a HUGE pain. The install isn't difficult, but it's exhausting and can frustrate you badly. My advise would be to have a shop do it, especially if you don't know your way around OHC engines too well.
In order to do the install you just need basic hand tools, but you will need a spring compressor tool to remove/install the valve springs.

So you are saying that this tool is a fake?
