I wish I could quit my job and just stay home and work on this thing for 80-100 hours a week until it was done. Not happening. I’ve got just about all the paint and body supplies I need and just got the windshield removed.

I’d love recommendations on the proper solvent to get the windshield adhesive off the car. Maybe just acetone and a plastic scraper? Heatgun?

I’m ready to clean, pull dents, sand and seal I guess.

Thanks Noobz, it really is. There are a few door dings here and there but other than that and a spot in the engine bay that looks like the aftermath of a leaking battery, I think it’ll clean up really nice.

The plan for the immediate future is to get corrosion in the bay sanded off, some minor dent pulling/mudding as needed and prep/sanding for sealer/primer/base/clear.

Once the garage is dust free, I’ll begin engine assembly and transmission rebuild. Still shooting for roadworthy by July 2026.

Well it’s happening. Finally a long vacation from work, so I can actually get something accomplished on this car of mine. It’s been blown apart for far too long. I’ve sanded, worked dents, applied fillers and glazes and rust encapsulator and epoxy primer. lol. Epoxy is not done. I thought a couple aerosol 2k cans would do it but not even close to covering all the bare metal. So I just ordered up a quart kit and will spray it for real. Tomorrow the wife and I will power clean, mask, and rearrange the garage so it’s suitable for spraying. Which means Monday night I should have the sheet metal under primer.
Exciting times ahead.

That's a nifty set of saw horses
They’re Kobalt, available at Lowe’s. Super handy for dealing with sheet goods if you do more than occasionally.

Stilllllllll prepping for paint. Is it literally a million things to do before actual coatings get atomized? Or is figuratively?? lol whatever. Pressing on. Coatings will fly soon. Painting on a budget. Hopefully this works out for me.

Excuse the past safety director in me, I can understand the fans are better than nothin but, is the garage attached to the house?
I'm sure you'll be ok,
Sometimes renting a booth is just not in the plans
A+ for effort though.

Yes sir, the garage is separate. The box fans are not ideal, this is happening though. I’m in a full suit and full face respirator. The day went well actually. This is a shade tree paint job for sure. I’m going to do the best I can and call it a success.

Epoxy went on all the bare metal I could find first thing today. Had a short appointment this afternoon but came back and laid the high build on everything. 2 medium wet coats everywhere with a third on all the exterior sheet metal, large areas that could benefit when I block I guess. We’ll see tomorrow when the guide coat goes on, just how bad I am at body work.

Perfect is a state of mind, Brand X (our 53 chebby p/u) had a semi-pro paint job on it some 20 odd years ago, we've had it since 2019 and you would have to look for imperfections and there are alot but it looks great walking by. Most problems will be corrected with patience and a really good light.
