It's only an inch or two. What's the big deal?

I almost bought another fox on Sunday. I've been holding out on ordering a new TKO for my reef blue roller and came across a craigslist ad I had to go check out. It was a black 90 lx with five lug conversion, bullitts a new tko 600, motorsport rearend with disc, corbeau seats, working a/c, and 89,00 origional miles. $5000. I know, right? sounds like a no brainer, huh?

So I get there and the car looks nothing like the pics, paintwise. The paint is falling off this thing, surface rust, beat to hell, and the engine hasn't seen a detail in 21 years. My roller back home looks better.

So, I pass.

Here's where I'm stuck. If I don't spend a dime in about another month I'll have about $11,000 to spend on a fox. I've been planning on painting my roller, buying a trans and building a 408w for it, but a man can buy a really nice fox for 11k.

I'm running out of patience. argh! What would you fellas be doing right now, wrenching on the roller or holding out and just buying a nice car ready to go?

man i feel your pain, i have a VERY nice 86gt , owned since new, all stock, but its slow compared to the newer stuff out there, but i hate to mod it up, worth more all stock i here all the time, here you can buy a nice modded up fox for around 8 to 15, i wish i had a 3 car garage . my 86 has never been outside, seen a couple here nice dyno at 300 hp another one at 370hp for 12. gonna hang low fow a few months .

for the money you cant beat buying one someone else has sunk all thier money and time into. If your patient you could buy a car for 1/4 of the cost to build it.

The more money that someone puts into a car, the better deal you will get in the end also

When you build it, you know what is in it. Buying someone elses junk, you just never know. Those nice parts might be beat on and junk. Hidden rust. Unsolved issues. Just never know.

With the internet you can find alot out about cars through build threads and such, and no matter who builds the car it is likely that there will be things you wont like and want to change, and even a car you build from a roller up could have all the issuses you speak of

I have first hand experience from this one. Not bragging, but None of the cars I have built have been junk. The guys that bought them from me got them for a steal! That orange and black turbo 4 eye i built had almost 35k in it by the time i was done, and i did it all myself. Sold it minus motor for 9500.00. he also got the 4000.00 trans and neal chance converter for that price. Bottom line...

There will always be someone like me selling his stuff when he decides to do something different....for half or less than what he put in it.
All you gotta do is look, if you got the money when the time is right,....you'll buy one hell of a car.

Thanks for the opinions, fellas. I appreciate you all taking the time to comment. The thing is for me, I can relate to both sides of this debate.(which is what's killing me) I love building cars. I've built quite a few cars. I'm also getting older, sore and tired from working on cars...I've had some pretty cool cars before, none as nice as the nicest ones on this site, though. I'm kinda looking at this as an opportunity to do it big and end up with something really sweet. I'm kind of agreeing with 90lxcoupe and madmike on the letting someone else take the hit, damn I've let a lot of money go building and selling.
I'm hoping I can find something really nice, and then tweek it enough that it feels like mine, not something someone else built. Kind of a happy medium. I know all too well it costs 12k to build a 7k car, which is why I've been having a hardtime spending the money. Guess I'll just keep wearing out craigslist for a while longer.....

:nice:

For $11k I'd buy a nice clean, low mileage fox body saleen or cobra and just drive and smile.

As I get older, I want to spend less time building, and more time driving and cleaning my lug nuts :)

What's funny is I've found one of each for sale in that price range and the money's not here yet!:nonono:

* resisting.....urge....to go to.......bank!*

aaaarrrrggghh!

I forsee unmolested saleens, especially the 4 eye cars being the biggest collectible foxes in the future. You cant go wrong with a clean cobra either. I cant see any of those being cars that you would want to drive that often though.

:stupid:

11k is 93 cobra money, and it will only go up in value if you dont pound 20k a year on it

but like him Im getting old

Yup. I know. unmolested being the key word here...Tell me this, who here could buy one and leave it alone? I'm already thinking of things I want to do to it and I havent even got the damn car yet... conundrum.....

At this point, if I bought a saleen or cobra, I could definitely leave it alone and just dedicate my time/money to restoration type of work.

Like I said before, I'd love for nothing more to just worry about keeping the lug nuts shiny :)

My car now has no collectibility....so I gotta "finish" it :D
