These pics were this morning, now i've gone home, taken a nap, and I'm back at the shop for the duration of saturday night, and I just degreased the bay, and dried of the car, now i'm gonna take a pic of what it looks like (basically where everything goes, cuz i got lotsa stuff to take off the strut towers and the firewall to paint them green w/ the car.... And i can't wait till it's all done and I can finally pop my hood at a car show!!!!!!!

I shall be bringing this thread back to page 1 everytime i take new pics of new procedures, and will answer any questions on painting the bay that need be asked, but wait till i do it first, to ask, i may not know the answer till i do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice! projects are fun, but they have their times where they get the best of your patience.

What exactly are you doing, just painting the bay? Rebuild and paint?

got a fresh 302 short block, bought set of edelbrock rpm heads, cobra upper and lower, and e cam, and now the enigne is out, gonna paint the bay, which actually i just laid the paint down 3 minutes ago, didn't clear yet, gonna get a pic w/o clear first (dnno why) and gonna clean everything and paint all the brackets (alternator, a/c, etc..) and put it in and have a show car engine bay appearance, the engine bay is SOOOO HARD TO PAINT!!!!!!!! I boughta little aresol can, that you can put your own paint into, that way i could reach some hard to reach areas (w/o an air hose connected to my gun) and the clear is only gona be on the firewall (top of the firewall actualy) and the strut towers and fender wells.. you'll see in a min)

Gonna Finish posting more pics in a min...

Sweet car man
i got a questions since you just did it....
is the motor hard to pull out??
lol it sounds stupid but i havent done it before. Just unhook everything and disconnect from the bellhousing??

motor is fairly EASY to get out of the bay, its just remembering where everything you unhooked goes, especially when disconnecting the stuff from the engine bay to paint it, i'm gonna be all flustered tommorow when i go to put it back together....

UPDATE ON PICS - JUST FINISHED PAINTING HERE (1 hour ago)

MVC-811S.webp

UPDATE = Just finished clearing that paint ^

well, the old motor is gonna sit on an engine stand next to my new motor, on an engine stand as well. I wil take the oil pan off my old motor, and with my new oil pump installed, will use new gaskets and put it on, than i'll tape off the head section and paint the block BLACK. (can't do blue cuz it would be to much w/ the green color) than i will install the new edelbrock aluminum heads (leave them aluminum looking) and chrome valve covers, install the lower intake (all polished aluminum cobra intake upper and lower) than plug all of the fuel injection shi*t up, using my old motor, and convert the car to mass air while i'm at it, which means taking out my old computer (churches auto parts needs a "core" unit to sell me a new one, for like 93 bucks) and replacing it w/ the A9L and installing my C&L 76mm mass air meter.... the old motor will sit at the shop after new motor is complete until i find someone that wants it for parts, or i junk it..... the block is good, just bearin went. I beleive the stock cam is still good, and the short block i have I'll be removing the stock cam out of that as well and that is bran new (replacing with E cam) the motor is really too old, its got 112,000 miles on it....

Do you guys think I'll be happy with going from stock set up to Massively aftermarket performance??

Just wondering what you guys felt, my heart is sooooo deeply into my mustang, nothing makes me happier really, it never gives me any crap, (other than usual car trouble) never talks back, and it's voice (exhaust) is enough to make me want to cry at each ignition.... I love it... And nothin makes me happier than to spend all the money I can on it to make it a very very peppy moderate race car.... I LOVE IT -

THANKS FOR CHECKIN OUT THE THREAD -

THE ENGINE BAY WAS A MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS TO PAINT, IF THAT ANSWERS ANYONES QUESTIONS!!!!!!! I LOVE PROJECTS TOO~!!g

Will use this thread continually to post pics of the motor build, out of the car, and when it goes in.....

thanks again

yup I know that feeling you're talking about, I get it on both my cars, but just a little better from my 90. Im jealous that I dont have the same stuff you're putting on, maybe soon huh? anyway, Goodluck!

never use single stage ever at my shop.... just clear everything... the reason is, when you use single stage, it's alot harder to blend paint, say a fender is damaged, close to the door, we can just fix the fender and paint the fender, the color will no matter what you do, will not match (occasionaly theres a good color) but anyway, you have to tape the fender AND the door up for paint, and spray a little bit into the door, called a blend, and you gotta be good and not let anyone know where you stopped your gun for paint, which means go farther into the door on each coat... than when your done painting, you have to clear the whole thing, and it looks bran new again..... Single stage, another problem, say you use it, and you have to sand n buff it, and your using red (or any other color at all) when you sand n buff it (inevitable, because of garunteed orange peel) your buffing pad will only really be good for that single job because it turns your buffing pad RED , and they can become expensive, we can get away witha bout 20 panels (doors, fenders, etc.) to a single side on a buffing pad w/ clear coat... (2 sides) ....

Clear coat, i admit, its alot harder to do, not only because it's thinner and easier to run, but because there is alot more STEPS to painting the vehicle, butin the long run, it looks the BEST and lasts the LONGEST....

Yea, it took a long time to save up for all the performance parts i'm gonna use, but can't wait to use them, anyone can do it, u just have to sacrifice everything else (going out to eat all the time, driving alot, gas money, movies, shoot pool at pool hall) can't really do much of that when ur tryina save money for bad ass parts!!!!
