Well i haven't been on here in a while...... been really busy with the car, among many others....

I finally installed my edelbrock performer intake, 24# injectors, maf, pressure regulator, 70mm BBk throttle body, plugs, wires, msd coil, and other small stuff........

i have a few problems however:

When you drive it hard like racing, between gear swaps when you powershift it or just shift at real high rpm, i get a backfire, (never had this problem before........

I also am leaking oil from the back of the intake, where the intake mates to the block, i used a generous amount of silicone, still got a leak....lol This means i have to pull it again i know, but that should fix it right, suck that i wasted a set of 20$ 1250's though.

I can't seem to get my TPS sensor tight enough where it doesn move, i verified that it is moving after throttle is opened, by putting a volt meter on it..........Is this the Throttle body or more likely to be the sensor ???? COULD THIS BE THE CAUSE OF THE BACKFIRE........ GAINING AND LOSING VOLTAGE?

Also wondering what kind of fuel pressure everyone runs with the 24# injectors...........

thanks to those who try or do help....

PS>........ Edelbrock rules....lol :hail2:

Sorry about your problems. My install went pretty well. I've never heard about those backfires...Not sure what causes them. About fuel pressure, I run about 37psi vacuum on. If you say your voltage is all over the place, then your ecu might think for example that you're wot when you're propably arent and all kinds of bad readings like that. So it cant really have a real reading. That sure is a big problem. Was your tps bolting fine on your stock stuff ? Still cant see why it shouldn't bolt on correctly...

Don't use a gob of silicone when you mate the intake. Too much will squeeze out and leave an uneven pattern and all it takes is a pin hole in the silicone to leak under pressure. Try to use a thin even bead and lower it on slowly to not move and disturb the silicone once it touches the intake. It's a simple job but one easily to screw up and have to do what you're having to do again. It's happend to me and I'm sure lots of others.
I would try no more than 40#'s w/ fp. 36-40#'s vac line off when you set it and see what happens.
How do you mean you can't get the tps tight enough? Is there a bolt stripped?

JR,

no there isn't a bolt stripped on the tps, it just seems to move, no matter how tight i get it, i tightened it i mean TIGHT, to the point i was worried about stripping the threads on the aluminum TB....... it just doesn't seem to want to quit moving, i am actually considering putting some type of sealant or adhesive on it.....

that unusual, my tps won't budge at all on my stock t/b and my edelbrock 65mm t/b, what kind do you have? Yeah, I would pull the intake and just reinstall in carefully again. When I had a similar combo I ran about 42psi w/vacuum off.

JR i would love to get the extra one you have........ they are almost 100$ at ford..... and i don't want to put on a cheap one, tried that and it actually quit working and developed a dead spot in no time.......

I plan to reinstall the intake when my gaskets and stuff arrive again......

Could the vacuum leak on the intake under WOT be the cause of the backfire, i say vacuum leak, i am sure it is losing vacuum with a hole under the intake RIGHT?

jason

thanks for help

I have all the extra vacuum ports on the intake capped off, i was wondering if the base of the intake to the block leak is affecting any kind of performance and/or causinng a vacuum leak........????

Here is a tip for you when you reinstall the lower intake.

Cut the head off a couple of long bolts the same thread size as the lower intake bolts or just cut a 6 inch section of all thread of that same thread size and put one in the back left side and the other in the front right side and the intake will slide down nice and straight with no side to side movement which can mess up your end seals.

i had an identical problem. after i installed my intake it was leaking oil out the back and backfiring when i shifted from 1st to 2nd. get the intake sealed up and check you fuel pressure and your problem should go away.

My BBK TB also had the little plastic bushing, make sure to put it in the right way, If its backwards I dont believe it will even go on. Our TPS's are not adjustable?? unless drilled out! And theres really no reason for that, (at least I havent figured one out yet) Mine stays perfect at .98 - .99 at Idle. Backfiring sounds like either a vaccuume leak or too much air, or maybe even too much gas. All points to vaccuume though.

good to know mootang, I am in the process of four things right now...

Redoing the intake, Getting the bushing from BBk, moving the battery to the trunk, and installing a fuel pump....and filter...

whew what a vacation
