HCI or SC(VT or KB)

Yikes. Self tuning was an extremely rewarding experience for me. I feel that I eeked out every ounce of power that the car was capable of. I did work at it, and I'm sure I went through a couple tanks of gas and a couple saturdays, but I'd never tell anyone they have a 5 percent chance of success.

The tune will only be as successful as you want it to be. I sold that car about 3 years ago, but I know if I still had it I would playing with the tune this weekend.

With the TwEECer I paid around 500 bones and had 3 tunes available with the option of the stock tune in case I FUBAR'd something. I had 1 for 93 octain, 1 for 87 octain, 1 for when I was f***ing around with nitrous, and the stocker. I'd rather spend an hour a night learning how to tune a mustang then watching TV.

It's not rocket science. Especially with the community of people that have been there and done it. On this forum alone there is enough knowledge to get you damn close. Actually Wes could probly tune your car with telepathy he's so damn good.

To play the devils advocate on that one; you really can't know if you are getting the last bit out without a dyno. There are no static variables with weather, so every night it's going to be different. Sometimes for good, sometimes for bad. Also it costs a little $ to toss it on the rollers anyhow esp to tune on them. I guess that and the utter non-saftey of WOT tuning on the street as I hope you are not doing it alone. Yes, you can datalog and make changes that way; but things need to be seen in realtime by someone watching a/f spikes in correlation to your fuel and timing tables. I guess we tune a basic standalone system though, so if there ARE decent basemaps floating around (which Im sure there are; most of that legwork is done).

I really encourage being able to tune by yourself, and I think it's pretty awesome. But, my stuff costs too much $ this far in to just kinda go at it. I have done it in the past with my old turbo cars, but like I had mentioned earlier and what is VERY important with the 5.0: THERE IS NO WAY TO MEASURE KNOCK. So, you must rely on very safe a/f readings (which as I said, a wideband STARTS at 200) and pray you don't go too far. Also with a supercharged setup, its not like you can really turn the boost down (although you may be able to run some sort of bleed before the bypass valve, there is no wastegate, and idk if you could effectivly bleed off manifold pressure to get it down); so there is no stepping it up and retuning once you get your base map down on a safe level.

Please and by all means go for it. I really hope you enjoy your results and that your engine holds up to at least a little bit of fun for you. I would do some research on what you really want out of your car though and how each blower reacts at different RPM and throttle levels. I think if I had to do the s/c thing again I might run the Novi 2000 and pony up the extra $. The vortech is limiting with an intercooler and packaging and you are kinda forced into running meth or a similar injection, and I don't much care for the ramp rate of the boost as it will jump to @ 5psi and then slowly climb as the car gets closer to redline from a roll with a vortech. The novi and others seem to flash higher (9+) and pull quickly much like how a turbo will be near INSTANT like 15psi (other then minimal lag deping on sizing and wheel selection) and then either hold or creep on you.

Blah. These shouldve came with boost from the factory lol....things would be so much easier. Just do it right.

Hanky I have gotten to the point if I see one of ur post I just scroll past it and don’t waste my time with the Neg. that’s not what any of us are here for and frankly I wish an admin would remove you from this post (Please Do) I am trying to get help with open ideas not battle wits with someone that has a problem with their own car so they want to bring everyone else down.

Ok guys I have been on the phone past 2 days with Rick Anderson seems like I can do that but if I have them do it and add everything I need 90mm Pro M and Inject. I am looking at 6300:jaw: ok so maybe I can do it myself with your guys help I took the turbos off many times on my gsx and put new ones on and they ran great even tuned them with an Apexi SAFC 2 witch I was very proud of what the car did until I blew it up with 169k on it lol. So I have some idea on how turbos work I understand that might be easier but what about a SC VTec. So we have belt so I have to take a different approach to it. But I don’t think it’s nothing you guys could not help talk me through like was said there are enough of us here to help each other and that’s what all of us our here for info on helping each other out! So with that stated I am going to get the Anderson kit and rely on some guidance from people I know can help. And I pray I have the support after I get it done I might take it to Anderson to check the tune. Fact is I have 4500 to spend this winter on my Project for the Cobra I told the wife it was this or I buy another toy to play with. If you guys can think where I spend 4500 in a better area on the car please let me know.

Thank You ALL

Did you even read the last few or even think over anything I said? What the hell is negative? Ignorange is ****ing bliss...

WTF ever happened to the idea of discussion. Hope no one ever blows anything but sunshine up your ass as there's NEVER any CONS to a project. You must've been one of the 'hack' DSM kids lol. :D

I think it can be done too just proceed with caution when tuning and get a good wideband so that you can keep check on things.

I would get the V3 Si trim supercharger the kit isn't much more if any and the supercharger is self contained (IIRC). The supercharger is more efficient and puts out near as much cfm as a t trim. I know they don't list them on andersons website but I know vortech makes a V3 kit for 94-95's now just take a look here. http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/product.php?p=87

Superchargers online list a very good price for the kit and tuner kits ( a full kit minus the fmu and boost retard) are available for if you want to buy your own tuning equipment. I've been looking at them too! I just know I can't afford one at this time.

I don't know about some of your arguments Hanky. The 5.0 motor is lagging in performance for sure, but it is cheap. You ever built an LS1 car? Holy balls parts for that thing are expensive. Not to mention you are starting with at least a 300lb weight disadvantage. I have to agree that it's the nickel and dime stuff that eats up your wallet in any project. That part is true.

When you start to self tune, I recommend you start by hooking up the data logging and the A/F stuff, and becoming comfortable with it N/A. Then work in the forced induction. By the time you get comfy with N/A you will be aware of how the computer works, and you will be looking at how your engine deals with air and fuel in a whole new dimension.

I tuned my car by going to the track and data-logging it. Cheaper and much more fun then the dyno. Just take baby steps and you will be fine. When I was doing this I didn't post anything on here because I have noticed that a bunch of people that race their keyboards and mouses have a ton of negative crap to say but can't back it up with real world slips and tunes. So take what you read with a grain of salt. The tuning section of this forum is extremely useful!

You don't need a PMS, wideband, injectors, tune, etc, blah blah blah with the Vortech..

You can get the HO kit with the t-rex inline and msd btm, and run 10# all day long for under three grand... End of story...

Ask me how I know??
