Good ol' Phil...came through for me on several occasions with trim for the Ghia that I had back in the day. Met him a couple times at Carlisle and Charlotte. He used to be in Alabama...looks like he's relocated.

I may be wrong but I think he started out in MN way back at the beginning of mustangII.net and then moved south and returned a few years ago.

You're right. I picked up a 4 speed from him way-back-when somewhere in the twin cities. He was in a townhouse at that time and he had the transmission in the garage under it.

Phil has a hatch back. Need to save a few bucks up to get it. Nothing on the west coast as far as I can see. Still looking while saving money. doing cosmetic repairs now. Hope to have body painted by next Tuesday. Then let body sit before polishing. Will start interior work then engine. Still waiting for my Edlebrock heads.......

Topic 1. I know this may be, only spoken in low voices, and in back rooms, but has anyone cut the hood under the air scoop to increase airflow? Just wondering. Was cleaning my air scoop/hood today getting ready for paint and the idea crossed my mine.

Topic 2. I always liked the rear window louvers. However, it has been pointed out they are hard to see out of. Anyone have this installed? Do you like or hate them? Taking ideas before ordering one. It is at the bottom of the list. Thanks,

Big intake, big air filter... Why should one think first what parts fit under the hood, when you can cut holes...
In my build thread on the first pages @LILCBRA posted and measured his solution for more air filter space.

As long as you can cover it with a good looking hood scoop, I don't think there's any harm in it. I mean it's functional in this case (for both fresh air AND clearance) unlike how they're cosmetic in stock form. Besides, a hood scoop adds some character to the car.

Oh, and about the rear louvers; I didn't think there was a real visibility issue with them. Maybe the quarter window louvers, but I don't have a problem with mine. I'd like to get the rear window louvers too, just never pulled the trigger on the purchase.

Almost have to cut the hood if your running a v8 with aftermarket intake unless you use the stock air cleaner or an air hat. I have the cheapo foam eddelbrock air cleaner and it rubs my stock hood scoop, even after cutting the hood. I really need a taller scoop. I have an Eddelbrock air gap intake and run a 1/2" phenolitic spacer. I am using rebuilt stock engine mounts without spacers. I tried 1/2" spacers on mounts to solve a vibration issue and the air cleaner was smashed against the scoop and left a hump in it.

I had a 1987 Shelby Daytona Z with rear louvers back in the day. I could see out just fine. I did have an officer pull her gun on me as her partner approached the driverside window. They pulled me over for 28 in a 25. That car had no window tint. They claimed they could not see me due to louvers. Once they saw I was in my nursing scrubs and livid having his partner drawing her weapon in my mirror they let me go. I put 60,000 miles on that car and never had an issue with visability other then that one incident with a small town PD that was overzealous and has a reputation as such.

I have a parts car here now with some oddball plastic rear louvers. Never seen them on another II. I can see out the rear window just fine. Granted it has only been driven down my driveway and back.

I did both 1 & 2. The hood scoop needed to fit a 14x3 Moroso air cleaner and I loved the look of the rear louvers. No problems and lots of thumbs up. Go for it.

I do like the rear louvers. I have three sets for my 79 pace car. don't know how I ended up with so many. One is the dealer installed louver. Others very nice aftermarket. Anyone needing one let me know.

Did find one rear hatch at Desert Valley. Has rust, but photos don't show as much as mine. Will get if they will lower price a bit....Using my louver money but can save up for that.

OH Had a small issue with the rear wheel spats I purchased from Classic Auto Reproductions. they went out of the way making sure I understood how to install them correctly. VERY VERY good customer support. Just letting you know there are still folks out there helping ii owners.

AND it's a small world. While talking with the company that makes the fiberglass King Cobra parts I got an update on the Mustang II Evolution from an earlier post. It is undergoing a complete rebuild and modification. Getting ready for this years SEMA....Offered my dash insert panel. Mailing to them. Sounds like it is going to be something special. Also found where a Handler I once owned is sittingggggggg. Sorry I had to sell that. Tried to buy it back. May try again. Back to the painting....

I did this with my 79 (and added a 87 up GT hatch spoiler). I did not know where the stock location was, so I measured, centered it over the carb. It looked right so I made it useful. Cutting a good hood was painful, so measure and cut carefully.

Update: Had several small set backs. Over the weekend though my wife had the "VID" but it turned out to be a seasonal thing and sore throat. for you old Marines and Sailors I suggested gargling with warm salt water with an aspirin. She saw the doctor and took the Vid test. Came back negative, so we could celebrate "Talk like a Pirate Day" Sunday. Doc said the salt water thing does help....anyway

Had to stop on the Mustang until all this cleared up. Just about done sanding the body. Will finish tomorrow unless some big rust area on the top show up. But I did look before and all was well. Just need to fill some places the paint (clear) was peeling off. Weather will be warm Friday for painting. Then let body sit for a week then buff the paint out. Then the interior and engine. Still waiting for my Edelbrock heads.......Still looking for the plastic thingie for the door lock/handles. Send email to Phil.

And. I have looking for new outside door handles painted black with the bolts not rivets. Can find a left one but seems the right one is not available with the bolts??? Is this true, or am I not looking at the proper place. ARHHHHHHHHHHH

Honestly didn't know they came with bolts instead of rivets. When I did my car I re-riveted them back in place.
