Need help with suspension, wheel + tire size, 91 Fox SN95 5 Lug

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a SN95 5 lug conversion kit with 94-95 spindles, Cobra front and rear brakes, and fox length axels.

I plan on lowering the car around 1 inch, and wanted to ask some questions regarding ride height and suspension setups,

I am thinking of buying adjustable coilovers, but I am not sure what else I need to make them fit in my car. I think I need camber plates, but I am not sure if I need a new K-Member, front and rear control arms, etc.

I also heard you can just buy lowering springs, but I am happy to spend more money to make my suspension better, hence why I would prefer adjustable coilovers.

In addition, I don't know what tire + wheel size to run. I heard that running 245/45/17 tires in all 4 corners should not cause any rubbing issues, or require fender rolling, or removal of the quad shocks. Are 17x9 wheels in the front and rear with 245/45/17 tires compatible without modification?

I also don't know what offset to run.

Any pre-existing threads/links would be great, I'm new to modding my car so I want to do it right.

I have 3 foxes, all 3 have the setup you describe with 1994/95 front spindles, fox length rear axles and cobra brakes all around. I run coilovers on my coupe, my two convertibles both run Eibach pro kit lowering springs. 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 on the green convertible. 245/40/17 and 275/40/17 on the coupe. No rolled fenders and no rubbing. Only flipped the quad shocks on all cars.

Can I ask what wheel sizes you are running? They seem like 17x9's, on the coupe, and 18x9's on the convertibles. What wheel offset are you running on each car?

I'm probably gonna go for stock height since I can fit a fatter tire, do you think a 245/45/17 will fit in all 4 corners without any issues at stock height? I'm happy to flip the quad shocks to accommodate a larger tire, but not remove them.

With this in mind, if I keep the stock height, are there any suspension modifications you would recommend?

Hello,

I'm still deciding on what size tires/wheels to run on my 91 Fox Convertible.

I've decided on running a 17 inch wheel, but I am not sure what wheel width + tire is allowed without rubbing or modification.

I'm keeping the car at stock height, and going for a square setup.

I heard that 17x9 wheels with 245/45/17 tires fit the front without any rubbing issues, but I have heard conflicting information depending on the brand of the tire.

I'm not planning on fender rolling, or removing the quad shocks, but I am happy to flip them.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Correct. 17x9 and 18x9 respectively. Not sure the back spacing but the 18's are the American Muscle Saleen clones and the 17s are real ford 95 Cobra R's. Can probably google what the back spacing is.

Just did a google search, I found similar replica wheels with 24mm offset. I assume they are the same offset as the real wheels?

You think I'll be fine with 17x9 245/45/17 wheels in 4 corners?

I don't mind going for a 17x8 wheel with smaller tires in the front to ensure no rubbing at full lock.

245's can rub at full lock, if you want absolute no chance of full lock rub you can go with a 235 in the front 245's have zero chance of rubbing in the rear. I run 275's and don't rub. Yes, my wheels are 24mm offset, that is correct.

After seeing @Mstng93SSP cars, I went with the Eibach pro kit, 17x9 Bullitt replicas from American Racing, with 245/45 fronts and 275/40 in the rear. I did have rubbing on the front, so added a rack limiter, and all is good. No problems at all in the rear.
I’ll try to find the link to wheel for the specs. It’s probably in my thread somewhere.

LMR sells a couple of different 17X8/9 staggered sets that use the 245/45s on the 8” front wheels and 275/40s on the rear 9” wheels. I have them on my ‘86 with 1” lowering springs and only had to flip the quad shocks for rear clearance.

My rim is what actually hit the lip of the control arm on full lock….. while going over a bump. The 245 on an 8 instead of 9 maybe perfectly fine.

And yes, I did flip my quads in the rear.

I run 245\45 17 with gt premiums all around no rubbing ever, but not lowered.

Do you like the 17's or the 18's better? What are your observations of each size in relation to ride quality, performance, and fitment?

No difference in ride. I almost like the look of 17s better personally. My 17" cobra R's are absolutely mint. Maybe that's why I like them better.

You have a good looking Stang there. Is it an 87 . i have an 87 5.0 convertible and looking to change rear and spindles to get some 5 lugs wheels. Any suggestion . Thanks. I am a rookie on these cars
