FINISHED PICS IN LAST POST.

Well I finally got around to buying an Astro Perforance Warehouse gearset for my T5 after breaking 3rd a few months ago. I started digging into it yesterday. I'm not going to do a full story on how to rebuild a T5, I will just show some pics and compare the stock T5 stuff to what APW gives you. I got pretty far into it before I remembered to take pics This is as far as I've gotten so far, and I will update this as I make progress. I don't have a whole lot of time to work on it every day, nevermind the energy.

Here's the case mostly empty. The mainshaft and input shaft are removed, leaving just the countershaft.

The empty case

Here's the output shaft still assembled with the stock gears.

Here's a few of the stock countershaft next to the APW. Just a small difference

Here's the 3rd gear carnage on the countershaft

Stock input shaft next to the 26 spline APW

Stock gears on the mainshaft and the APW gears that will be replacing them.

Those pic of the brokin gears bring back bad memories. I have killed 7 t5's. How much did all that cost you? Whats it rated at?

I'd like to know the same.

It looks a lot stronger. I'm looking into doing the same. But with my luck, I'd break that chit too.

The gearset was $1100. Plus a King Cobra pressure plate with a Mcleod 26 spline disc, syncros and a few bearings, and shipping came out around $1600. I believe my setup is rated for around 550 horse and 450 ft-lb, but it's limited by the mainshaft and case. The gears can handle a lot more than that.

I finally got around to working on the tranny this weekend and finished it up. I will start getting the car ready this week and throw it in next weekend, finally! The build was pretty easy and smooth overall. I had a couple little snags pulling the gears off. I had to custom make a couple pullers, but it wasn't bad. The syncros were a little intimidating at first, but once you see how everything works it's really easy. Setting the countershaft endplay was a piece of cake and I was able to just cut the stock shim down to what I needed. The input/main endplay ended up perfect with no shims! Lucky

Assembled mainshaft and countershaft installed.

HD bearing retainer and 26 spline input.

Output shaft with 5th gear assembly. 5th gear is extremely wimpy and I wish I went with the upgrade road race 5th, but it was expensive. Now I know why they say to be easy on it in 5th.

Done!!

I threw the shifter on to make sure it went in all the gears and to adjust the stops, but I will remove it to fill the tranny once it's in the car.

MGW ftw!

Oh **** yeah! I'm going to attempt to put a couple hundred miles on it first, but we'll see what happens. I'd like to get it to the track by the end of the season so I can put it in the 13s stock before the winter plans.

All that needs to be changed is the clutch disc. I went with one of Astro's combinations using this Mcleod 26 spline disc with a King Cobra pressure plate. They said this setup will hold 500-550hp.
