well my cousin and i have a interview with a wyotech represenative on sep.7:nice: , to see if were right for the school. Hopefully we are, in high school i took 2 years of precison machine, welding, and motorsports tech. and he took 3 years of autoservice tech, so i wouldnt see why not but who knows. anyway if accepted ill be needing a good, reliable daily driver that gets better MPG than the stang. i was thinking along the lines of a ranger or something of that nature. it needs to be something decently priced, lets say around 5k. also needs to be 4x4 because ill driving it in the snow sooner or later. anyone have any experience with rangers?? relaibility,MPG,etc. or should i get something else?

Get with your Opal Frost brother, Justin. He was a Ranger nut some time back and knows boatloads (payloads? :rlaugh: ) about them. :nice:

Good luck.

I have a 99 XLT 4x4 3.0 auto supercab stepside Ranger. I like it. The only thing that I don't like it's that it's a dog. Kinda wish I went with the 4.0 and a 5sp but my gf drives it and she don't know how to drive a stick. 3.0s I heard have great a reliability. Not sure about the 4.0s. I get around 18mpgs in the city. I can also run E85 but the brings down the mpgs to around 15, but it saves me about $10 a fill up. So far nothing has been wrong with it *knocks on wood* except the drivers side leaf spring broke on me. Other than that it's been a great DD.

Oh, I got mine for $6,000 with 78K miles.

The 3.0L OHV's are EXTREMELY reliable. Probably the most reliable Ford's ever built, IMO. There just a little lacking in the power department compared to the 4.0L. They get decent mileage .... but the 2.3L 4 banger gets better, of course. My old 5 speed 2.3L got 28 MPG. My 5 speed 3.0L got around 16.

I believe '95 or '96 was the last year you could get a 4x4 with a 4 cylinder.

If it were me .... I'd get a '98+ 4x4 .... 3.0L or 4.0L .... 5 speed.

well whatever i get, ranger or not its gonna be a manual trans. im looking for a 4.0 or 3.0. also i just mainly worried about highway mpg, its a 6 hour drive from here and im wanting to try to come home everyweekend to see my girl

Which campus would you be attending if you go to Wyotech? The Blairsville campus is only about 50 minutes away from me and about 10 minutes from our local track! :) If you come out to this campus let me know.
