Dave looks like stinger performance makes a pnp unit for the supercoupe... sweet. This is the way I would go not sure the wiring differences between the two cars I'm sure you won't have an issue with that though...

So the Stinger unit is a complete system like the one you referenced earlier? Meaning I don't need the other, just the Stinger?

And, would I need something like this?

The stinger Pimp is just like the plug and play ms2 that we all use in the mustang... except that it is ms3 based. So it's more powerful from the get go, the one you order will come pre setup for your specific engine so less head scratching time on your end.
You can run the edis with this just fine nothing wrong with edis if you want to save the money. But according to there hardware feature set this unit has 8 ignition outputs to drive coil near plug.
 
Upgraded blower cases,....Stroked, forged rotating assemblies,.....3rd party head shops,..charging buttloads for a valve job...big dollar ECU/ignition.......

Whatever happened to the Dave that sewed his own seat covers back together, then painted the fabric black?

My paychecks started coming back up and I’m paying off a massive debt in January finally.

I really don’t have much for myself Mike, I’m kind of making this my gift for working hard for so many years. A little selfish, sure. I drive a sixteen year old pick up. My kids have better cars than me and you better believe my wife drives a better one.

With this car being so old, no matter how much I fix it up my wife will still believe she has the better car....kind of win-win to me.:D

As little as I know of you, ( and I know more about that than anybody else here). You are about as genuine, honest, dedicated, and self sacrificing man as they come. I believe that if anybody deserved a good turn, it'd be you.

I'm not the first to say that You'll never get hurt taking the high road Dave,...If you do it right the first time, there'll never be a thread from you here complaining that you wished you had..
 
If you buy what I want you to for this build.... you will not use edis, you will use LS coil near plug or equivalent with sequential spark and fuel.

Just in case you need some, I have a couple.

No they are very simple to wire yourself. It's your choice Dave, let me do a little research for you and contact stinger if you want to go pnp. If you are going to build your own harness i would go the pro route.

The cost difference is a hardware deal Dave the stinger is great but the ms3pro is far more capable from a wire it yourself standpoint....

Let's see if @Stinger can shed some light here.

Quick question, you mentioned using rock chip guard on the interior panels and then later I believe you said it would be too thick for the interior panels. Did you use two different products for the actual rockers and the interior? Or did I suffer some kind of reading comprehension breakdown. I haven’t started the painting 101 thread yet but I think it’s next on my list. Thanks!

I used a rattle can of 3M chipguard that has a small grain to it for the interior. Once it dried I hand sanded it to make it slightly smoother.

The rocker chip guard I used on the rocker mouldings is still a 3M product, just MUCH thicker and requires a specialized gun to spray it. It’s far more durable than the stuff I used on the interior panels.

Thanks for the compliment, but as the bodymen will say, I’m just a monkey with a paint gun. Lol

Ok......I have an engine in my garage, right? So I should be doing something......:nonono:

Well sunday night I go to the garage to shut lights off before getting some sleep. As soon as I open the door I hear water splashing. Sure, you may be thinking the soothing sound of splashing water may take you away to some beautiful scenery in the rockies as it flows gently over the rocks in a stream. What it did for me is to take me to the closet in the garage that has the water heater.:nonono:

So last night i'm installing a new water heater and moving my engine out of the way. Water heaters are heavy, btw. I took off work at 2:00 and went to Lowe's and began the journeyman phase of plumbing. By 8:30 I was igniting the pilot light of the new water heater and by 9:15 I was enjoying a nice long hot shower to sooth my aching back after lifting a 200+lb water heater by myself.

So nothing mustang wise Monday night.

That ancient history, this is Tuesday now for goodness sake. What did I do today? I removed the harmonic dampener/balancer.

Then off with the external oil pump.

Kind of interesting to see the SC mark on the inside of the block.

Everything looks pretty good, oddly enough with the stop leak stuff a distant memory. Some sludge in the bottom of the oil pan, but nothing sparkly.

Next thing will be to remove the timing chain and gears, then the camshaft.

After that it will be time for the rotating assembly.

Very nice, Dave. Running a supercharged six will set your car apart from the other Mustangs out there. Of course, your craftsmanship will, also but you knew that already. I take it that is a cast iron block? Makes me think of the Buick Grand Nationals.

Truthfully, this six build is more to keep me from going crazy with a bored and stroked 351.

I would have this car being nothing more than a fair weather princess at best had I gone with a larger engine. I probably would have believed a roll cage would be best for it next had I gone the more common hp route. Chasing a 1000hp and still driving an old beater for daily use.

It's not about being cheaper either, you have to believe me the parts that'll go into this engine cost just as much as a V8 would.

And it’s not about being different for me, I like my belly button lint:zombie:. Fact is I'll go look at my lint collection before I go to work.

So, in other words, I'm doing this because I'm a weak, weak man.:nonono:

It is interesting doing this build though, I wouldn't have had a roots supercharger on my engine otherwise.

What a bunch of malarkey. I haven't seen this much nonsensical rambling since re-reading one of my old posts.:rolleyes:

You're saying the you chose this engine to keep yourself from getting all " off the deep end" with a 351 based build?

A 1000 HP Windsor would've been no less over the top than a 400 hp 3.8. The steps that you'll have to take to keep that little engine happy with that much power will be more than a tick over routine maintenance.

For one thing, Once you pulley that blower to make the boost necessary to make that much power, it'll always be that way......Unlike a turbo with a waste gate, there's no adjustable "daily driver mode" once a roots supercharger is set to full kill.

Big boost means that there'll always be that need to feed the engine the octane to keep it all together..( a condition that I'm all too familiar with). One way or the other, you'll have to deal with that monkey. If that means checking the reservoir in the trunk to make sure it's full of water/meth, adding several gallons of toluene /race gas to each fill up,
or simply being able to add 12 ounces of vroom-vroom to your tank,..you're probably gonna have to do it.

Oklahoma gets hot, Roots blowers get hot. Roots blowers in Oklahoma get hotter. That little aluminum box on your engine will heat soak....Ford knew that. But they only built that engine to put out 200 hp. And Inter cooling designed to cool down a modest power level was well within their design objectives for a daily drivable, warrantable engine package.
But, Yours will be double that..

With all that extra power, the need to keep everything cool goes up at some exponential number I'm sure. Engine temp, and Intake air temp are both gonna require a lot of attention from the aftermarket to keep everything in check.

I applaud your decision to travel the path you're going, I don't have to tell you that I was more than thrilled when you chose that engine over a Windsor "anything" build....

But at the same time, you are going down a road that less than single digit percentages of the Ford fanatic have the balls to travel down...They don't know that engine, They don't wanna know that engine, and they ain't willing to try either....it's all too easy to stay in the comfort zone of familiarity.

You did this to keep yourself from building another 1000 hp Windsor, because it'd be just another 1000 hp Windsor.;)
