More progress... Removed intake to understand/fix vacuum routing. Since I was here, removed driver's side valve cover (since that is where the tic/knock shows up when car is warm). Everything looks fine at a top level glance. Verified torque on all the rockers-all good. Glad to see zero sludge.

Now time to reassemble after I fix the intake vacuum lines.

Pcv comes off of where you have the tfitting in the back corner. Not sure if this matters or not, just an observation

Or actually I could be wrong lol now i need to go check mine. Someone correct me. I could have the brake booster there instead

I've been googling pictures of the under side. Charcoal canister line port will be blocked.

I apologise Mac if I said something confusing I forgot I bypassed the vacuum tree temporarily when chasing down vacuum leaks previously

The line from the throat to the T is not needed, hose f the T to PCV, brake booster gets vacuum from the tree on the firewall. Everything else goes to the tree on the intake. Canister is from the front of the throat.
That's how I have my intake (tubular) pretty much the same as stock minus the emissions stuff. Well I still have my egr valve although no provisions. SN95 should be similar.
I think.
Veryuseful.com prolly has a pic.

I would replace those rubber plugs with some fuel or vac hose plugged with... not rubber.

Those things dry rot and come apart and all the sudden one day it's running like crap and you're scratching your head. The heat cycles just eat them.

Another update...after getting everything back together in the engine bay, I decided to pull the pcm to inspect the capacitors. Sure glad I did. 2 of them were toast. I have no idea how the fuel pump wasn't constantly running and the CEL wasn't acting up.

This is what they looked like:

New ones being installed: I bend the leads to hold it in place while I solder. I then trim the excess off.

So...when I was finished, I bumped the PCM and it took a freaking gainer off my work bench. Everything still looks good but my hell...hopefully it's ok. I am always super careful, so this was a kick to the balls.

Tomorrow I'll fire it up and if all goes well the shakedown will continue as I tear up the streets! Kidding...sort of.

I'm guessing these "performance" chips were a joke?

I know back in the day they were. Hypertech, JET, the gains if any, were minimal for the price.
